Thanjavur (Tamil: தஞ்சாவூர்), also called Thanjai and formerly known as Tanjore, is a city in Tamil Nadu and the 12th largest in the state. It is a significant hub for religion, art, and architecture. The city is home to many Great Living Chola Temples, UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the 11th-century Brihadeeswarar Temple.
The Thanjavur Maratha Palace houses the centuries-old Saraswathi Mahal Library, containing palm-leaf manuscripts, and the Thanjavur Art Gallery, famous for bronze statues. The Tamil University Museum exhibits coins, folk artifacts, and musical instruments.
